Rainforest Cafe at the MGM Grand Las Vegas

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Zeke Quezada, About.com

The Bottom Line

My opinion has changed about the Rainforest café over the years. It could very well be that having children has made me more patient with the never ending action in the restaurant or they may have improved their menu. What used to be a tourist trap has evolved into a legitimate choice for a dining option in Las Vegas.
Pros
  • Breakfast is surprisingly good
  • Appetizers to keep you snacking
  • Reasonable prices relative to other Vegas restaurants
  • Impressive Tropical Drink menu
Cons
  • During the day there can be a lot of kids
  • Sensory overload - animals, music, thunder and lightning

Description

  • The Flat Iron steak for breakfast will keep you happy all day long.
  • The pastalaya is oozing with spices and Cajun flavors, if you like spice this is it.
  • Appetizers, Lava Nachos and Costal Calamari are the perfect mid day Las Vegas snack
  • Tropical drink bar is a good place to watch a game but not to hit on the opposite sex.

Guide Review - Rainforest Cafe at the MGM Grand Las Vegas

Ultimately, the food at any restaurant has to be good to warrant a return visit. The Rainforest café at the MGM Grand has consistently delivered a good product for a reasonable price. While Las Vegas offers many culinary journeys the Rainforest Café offers some decent variations of an upscale café at prices that are palatable for Las Vegas.

For example, breakfast for children at $5.99 is possibly the lowest in town.(not including buffets) A family of four can start their day at the Rainfoerst Café and have breakfast for under $30. That is almost unheard of at any Las Vegas Hotel Restaurant.

The entrees are well proportioned and are alive with flavors usually reserved for the establishments where they frown on flip flops.

There are a couple of issues I had with the Rainfoest cafe, the sounds of the jungle along with the music can get so loud that you can barely have a conversation. If you have kids you will spend the better part of your meal trying to answer questions about the many animals lining the walls and ceiling.
