Playing Craps in Las Vegas with a know it all

By Zeke Quezada, About.com

It was about 2:30 A.M. when we decided we should crawl around the casino and look for a hot table. Our game tonight was craps, as my wife calls it, rolling the bones. I had had three Manhattans and a Pastrami on Marbled Rye and was feeling a bit lethargic when we saw the table. Everybody in the casino heard the table and we walked over and tried to get in on the action.

When you see a hot table in full blown glory it is a sight to be seen. Chips are everywhere, people are crowded in and the energy is magical. There was nowhere to stand, every inch of that table was stacked three deep with people. So I sent my wife in and she cradled her petite size 2 frame between one of the stickman and another player. I could see she made no friends, but she dropped two hundreds on the table for some change and instantly placed a bet, “for the boys on the table”. The dealers loved her.

At that point a little space opened up and she reached back for me and I slid in tight next to her. I was sandwiched between her and a guy who might have been up for at least 48 hours. He needed a shower, a shave and about a weeks worth of rest.

I gathered my chips and looked across a sea of red, green and black chips on the table. This thing was smoking and everyone was making money. I dropped ten dollars on the field as my wife cradled her chips against her chest. She was making a quick count as she made her move.

“Ten on 4, 5, 9 and 10, twelve on 6 and 8. and give me all the hard ways” She leaned over took a red five dollar chip from my stack and placed all the chips on the table. The dealer flashed her a smile as she was jumping all the way in.

The dice made their way down the table and nine came up. I doubled my bet of $10. My wife was on her way to the biggest game of her life.

About half an hour later and roughly three hundred dollars happier the table was still rocking when the cubes made their way to my wife. I had actually passed on the throw because she was hot and I could make far more money on her “rolling the bones.”

Boy did she roll them, 26 minutes in total. Not that long but long enough to realize that when you have all the numbers covered you win on every roll if you have a shooter that is making numbers. At one point I thought they were going to name a tower at the casino after her.

This is where it gets interesting. A young woman made her beside me and was trying to figure out the game. She was being flirtatious as she eyed my rack of chips. I looked like a high roller, but realistically my wife had made me the fortune in the preceding half hour.

The young lady leaned over and playfully asked, “ Can you show me how to play?” It was loud but not so loud as to not be able to hear her, but I wanted my wife to hear it so that she could see that I still had it. You know the ability to attract the opposite sex.

So I asked, “Can you repeat that?”

“Oh, I just wanted to know if you could help me learn the game.” She said much louder.

I leaned over and asked my wife permission to help this young, attractive girl.

Tersely, she replied, “Go ahead, I’m winning and rolling”
